Sim Local – the largest vendor of SIM cards in the UK travel sector – has today announced its entrance into the US market after sealing a partnership with WHSmith-owned InMotion. Under the agreement, the US’s number one airport-based electronics and consumer technology retailer will sell local SIM cards in 125 stores across the country.

The tie-up will see Sim Local provide a choice of SIM cards and plan options to international travellers in the stores from this month through branded free-standing displays and countertop units.

The SIM cards allow the purchaser to stay seamlessly connected while abroad, without incurring additional roaming charges.
Dublin-headquartered Sim Local – which also has offices in London and now New York – said that InMotion staff will receive detailed training “to support customers to make informed choices” on which of its products to purchase.
Sim Local Chief Business Development Officer Andrew McClellan said that the move into the US market is the next step towards his company’s ambition of becoming the world’s largest seller of SIM cards in the global travel market.
He added: “This partnership expands our retail footprint even further and helps us offer money-saving solutions to customers worldwide. Our extensive travel retail experience is being introduced to the US through InMotion and by working side by side with our local colleagues, we will be able to reach and understand the unique requirements of international travellers in the region.”
